Conducting polymers (CPs) are unique in that they have switchable properties due to their two or more mechanically stable oxidation state. Thus, their films or coatings can be easily switched by the application of small voltage and current to change volume during their electrochemical redox process. In particular, polypyrrole (PPy) has been studied most extensively because of its high electrical conductivity and good environmental stability under ambient condition. In this work, we prepared actuators consisting of two conducting polymer films and solid polymer electrolyte with a configuration of PPy/PVDF/PPy. PPy film was doped by various dopants with different size. Electrochemically synthesized PPy was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and 4-point probe. The properties of SPE were measured by using fourier thansform-infrared spectroscopy, AC impedance measurements and dynamic mechanical analyzer. The change of actuation mode according to dopant size was clearly observed. |
