Protein Partitioning of Aqueous Protein Solution |

A molecular-thermodynamic framework for protein partitioning is developed for phase equilibria in an aqueous system containing a globular protein. The accuracy of the investigation for the occurrence of phase transitions critically depends on the knowledge of the effective interprotein potentials of mean force in solution. An equation of state is based on a hard-sphere reference with perturbations introduced through potentials of mean force. In this work, we introduce the modified perturbed hard sphere chain (MPHSC) model to illustrate phase behavior of protein solution. The MPHSC equation of state is based on modified Chiew’s equation for hard-sphere chains as the reference term, and uses a van der Waals type perturbation term. The calculated coexistence curves using this proposed model has reasonable agreement with experimental data in given system. |
