제목 Photochromic and acidichromic effects in spiropyran indoline derivatives and their fluorescence studies
초록 In this work, we synthesized N-octadecylspiropyran (SP-18) and examined the effect of the long alkyl substituent and acids on the absorption and fluorescence properties. Comparison of the spectral properties in solution and films revealed that there existed not much differences between methyl substituted spiropyran (SP-1) and SP-18 although vacuum deposition of SP18 produced a transparent film but SP-1 gave a haze film. The rate of decoloration was retarded in polar solvent due to the stabilization of the ring-open zwitterionic species. New absorption maximum appeared around 420nm when SP-1and SP-18 in solution was irradiated with 365nm in the presence of strong acids while in the presence of weak acids, no change of absorption maximum was observed. This was interpreted by the protonation of the generated zwitterion form. Intermolecular excited state proton transfer between protonated MC and Cl- was suggested. This results in the effects of the presence of acid on the stability of MC form and the possibility of utilizing fluorescence of MC form for the optical storage application.
