제목 Toward the better understanding of photoinduced properties on azo polymers I : Relationship between SRG formation and material absorption
초록 Surface relief gratings (SRG) on films of azobenzene-functionalized materials are microscopic periodic structures, which could be fabricated upon exposure to interference patterns of laser beams in the region of absorption wavelength of the azobenzene materials. This phenomenon is believed to be due to a photodriven mass transport process by trans-cis-trans photoisomerization of azobenzene moieties even though the detailed mechanisms are not clear at this moment. To design useful materials for the potential photonic applications, the mechanism of this process should be understood. In this presentation, we discuss the relationship between the SRG formation and materials absorption. In order to tune the maximum absorption wavelength of the azobenzene materials, methacrylate based polymers containing various azobenzene substituents were synthesized. The SRGs on the azobenzene polymer films were optically fabricated at three different wavelengths of Argon ion laser beams (457, 488, 514 nm) and characterized by measuring diffraction efficiencies, AFM images and UV spectrum. Additionally, the relationship between the SRG formation and photoinduced linear orientation was examined.
