Currently, there is great interest in graphene-based devices because graphene has unique electronic and material properties, which can enhance material performance. Graphene may be used in a variety of potential applications from next-generation transistors to high-strength polymeric composites. Graphene, which has atomic thickness and two-dimensional structure, has also been considered promising material in gas- or liquid-barrier applications because perfect graphene do not allow diffusion of molecules through its plane. In general, graphene and its derivatives, such as graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO), can be applied via two major routes for barrier polymer applications. One is the transfer or coating of few-layered graphene and its derivatives on polymeric substrates. The other is the incorporation of GO or rGO into the polymeric matrix. In this article, we show polymer nanocomposites consisting of fully exfoliated GO nanosheets and their gas-barrier properties. |
