In-situ conjugated alendronate-oxidized alginate/gelatin/bioglass hydrogel |

Hydrogels have many applications in regeneration medicine such as scaffold for tissue engineering. The hydrogel scaffolds have been exhibited biocompatibility, their degradation products with nontoxicity for promoting cell attachment and tissue formation. The oxidation reaction sodium alginate cleaves the carbon-carbon bone of the cis- diol group and leads to the formation of active aldehyde group. The approach provides bioactive polymer several bioactive hydrogels. Moreover, the obtained product could be ultilized further to prepare via Schift-base reaction. Herein, oxidized alginate was previously insitu conjugated with alendronate and then combined with gelatin to prepare hydrogel composite oxidized alginate/gelatin/bioglass for enhancing osteoblast adhesion and spreading on hydrogel. In vito cytotoxicity demonstrated that bone marrow cells were well proliferated on the alendronate conjugated hydrogel composite. Moreover, osteoclast formation and activity are inhibited by alendronate. These hydrogels could be promising biomaterial for bone regeneration. |
