Bone healing is one of the important phenomena in clinical fields, including oral, maxillofacial, orthopedic and plastic surgery. The rapid appearance of fibrous connective tissue in bone defect during the healing leads to the incomplete bone formation with low mechanical strength and cartilage-like tissue. In our previous study, we developed GBR membranes with submicron pore sizes and hydrophilicity, which can provide good environment for bone regeneration. In this study, we prepared growth factor (BMP-2)-loaded asymmetrically porous PCL/Pluronic F127 GBR membrane for more enhanced bone regeneration. From the growth factor release experiment, it was observed that the BMP-2 continuously released from the PCL/Pluronic F127 GBR membrane, up to ~ 150 ng for 28 days. The BMP-2-loaded PCL/Pluronic F127 membrane showed faster bone regeneration than the control (blank) and PCL/Pluronic F127 membrane without BMP-2. |
