Semifluorinated block and graft copolymers are of growing interest because of their unique properties, such as very low surface energy and oil/water repellence. They may be utilized in many applications including as emulsifiers in liquid and supercritical carbon dioxide. Recently, we reported the synthesis of semifluorinated amphiphilic block copolymers by atom transfer radical polymerisation of 1H,1H-perfluorooctyl methacrylate(DHFOMA) or 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyl methacrylate(THFOMA) using PEO macroinitiators. In the present work, we report the synthesis of series of PDMAEMA-b-PFOMA copolymers via group transfer polymerization. Wide ranges of copolymers consisting of PDMAEMA and either DHFOMA or THFOMA are prepared by varying the ratio of monomer to initiator, and the micellar characteristics of the amphiphilic copolymers are investigated by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In addition, solubility of copolymers in compressed carbon dioxide is described in terms of the cloud points. |
