Aromatic nitro compounds have been categorized as a hazardous waste and toxic pollutant. Thus, efficient elimination of aromatic nitro compound is very important. Pd nanoparticles have high catalytic activity for the reduction of aromatic nitro compound. However, the applications of Pd nanoparticles have a disadvantage their easy aggregation and the difficulty of catalyst-product separation. To overcome this problem, Pd nanoparticles dispersed on appropriate substrates have been studied. In this study, we prepared Pd-CNTs by introducing thiol groups on CNT surfaces. Surface thiolation is an effective way to obtain dispersed metal nanoparticles on the surface of CNT. The samples were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The reduction of aromatic nitro compound is also investigated by ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) measurement. |
