Titanium dioxide is widely used as pigment, in semiconductor, photocatalyst and electrochemical sensor. In recent years, the photocatalyst of TiO2 has been utilized for various fields of environmnetal purication, such as degradation of hazarous volatile organic and malodorous compound, decomposition of carbonic acid gas. Because of broad band gap of TiO2 and high chemical stability, it effectively absorbs ultraviolet rays of short wavelength and consistently photolyzes organic as an aqueous solution. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2 depends on crystal phase, particle size and degree of crystallinity. Thus the degradation of methylene blue was used as a test-reaction to verify the photocatalytic activity of the TiO2. In this study, we prepared various amorphous and crystaline TiO2 and all samples were applied to photocatalytic decomposition of methylene blue. Physical properties of the samples were charaterized using XRD, SEM, FT-IR, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. |
