Swelling and Electroresponsive Characteristics of the Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes (MWNTs)/Gelatin Nanocomposite Hybrid Hydrogel |

MWNTs/Gelatin composite films were prepared by solution casting. MWNTs were dispersed in water by ultrasonication with surfactant. The sample's response to applied electric field was investigated. Swelling behavior of the composite was studied by immersion of the vacuum-dried gels samples into deionized water at room temperature. The incorporation of up to 0.8wt% MWNTs increased the swelling of the gel and then gradually decreased by further increase in the amount of MWNTs. The kinetics of swelling of the composite was also studied. The addition of MWNTs to polymer showed no effect on the order of kinetics with both follow second order of kinetics. The effect of salt concentration on the swelling behaviour of the composite was studied to optimize the salt concentration for the evaluation of the actuation behavior of the MWNTs/Gelatin composite. The state of the water in the polymer composite was characterized by DSC and the morphology was studied through SEM and TEM |
