Single walled carbon nanotube field effect transistor (SWNT-FET) have been widely studied for their potential applications in real-time and label-free detection of specific biomolecular interactions. In the first part, we will present our recent results in successful fabrication of highly sensitive single walled carbon nanotube-FET (SWNT-FET) devices which reproducibly detect nonspecific protein adsorptions and specific protein-protein interactions at as low as 1 pM concentrations. The detection limit has been improved by 104-fold compared to the similar devices fabricated by conventional photolithography. The substantially increased sensitivity mainly owes to the increased Schottky contact area which accommodates relatively more numbers of proteins even at very low concentration. |
