Composite membranes based on poly[2,2’-(m-phenylene)-5,5’-bibenzimidazole] (PBI) and lithium hydrazinium sulfate (LiHzS) have been prepared. The membranes were characterized by FE-SEM, FT-IR, and X-ray diffraction. The homogeneous dispersion of LiHzS particles in the membranes were confirmed by FE-SEM micrograph. The thermal stability and acid absorbing capability of PBI-LiHzS composite membranes with various amounts of LiHzS were comparable to those of the pure PBI membranes. The maximum proton conductivity of PBI-LiHzS5 membrane with , 0.022 S cm-1 at 180 oC and 0 % relative humidity, was much higher than that of pure PBI membrane with same acid content. The composite membranes with less than 5 % of LiHzS showed similar mechanical stabilities with pure PBI membranes. |
