PIM-1 based palladium nanoparticles embedded graphene-like carbon for hydrogen energy systems. |

Palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) embedded graphene hybrid structure has been widely explored for materials in high-performance hydrogen energy systems due to large area of active sites, and high carrier mobility of graphene, and high hydrogen reactivity of PdNPs. However, manufacturing graphene with conventional methods and functionalization of graphene with PdNPs require lengthy period of times, and high chemical energy. Here, we demonstrate a practical method to produce PdNPs embedded porous graphene-like carbon by carbonization of PIM-1 with well-dispersed palladium (Pd)-ligand. We first fabricate PIM-1 film with evenly distributed Pd-ligand. Then, we carbonized PIM-1 and decompose Pd-ligand to Pd under 500°C, and achieve microporous graphene-like carbon with well dispersed ~20 nm sized PdNPs. We believe that our hybrid structure can find broad applications for hydrogen energy systems. |
