Palladium Chloride Species Recovery from Pd/SiO2 Catalysts by Hydrometallurgy |

In heterogeneous reaction, palladium (Pd) catalysts have been utilized for various industrial technologies. It has been gaining attention of recovery from the spent materials due to its high economic value. Herein, we investigated selective dissolution of Pd and recovery of Pd as PdCl2 species from Pd/SiO2 catalyst to recycle for a precursor. The total process is composed of leaching process in HCl and H2O2 aqueous mixture and recovery process with addition of 0.5 M NaOH solution. We found that complete dissolution was achieved by leaching with 3 M HCl and 5 vol% H2O2 at 80 ℃ for 2 h with a liquid/solid ratio of 50/1. Palladium components such as Cl2 and HClO. The components reacted with Pd to form H2PdCl4. Pd could be recovered as components combining with chlorine by adjusting the pH to 9 of the filtrate without a reducing agent. These results suggested that recovered Pd powder could be utilized as a Pd precursor. |
