Hydrogen production from waste-derived synthesis gas through high temperature water-gas shift reaction using Co-CeO2 catalyst: An optimization of cobalt loading |

In our previous research, Co-CeO2 catalyst showed high catalytic performance compared to bulk Co3O4 in the high temperature water-gas shift (WGS) reaction. To enhance the performance of Co-CeO2 catalyst, we varied the cobalt loading (10, 15, 25, 35 wt.%) to determine the optimum loading of cobalt in Co-CeO2 catalyst. Among the prepared catalysts, 15% Co-CeO2 catalyst showed the most stable activity (50h, 400 oC) without any side reaction (methanation) even at severe reaction conditions; a high gas hourly space velocity (142,663 h-1) and a high CO concentration (~38%) in the waste-derived synthesis gas. The remarkable performance of 15% Co–CeO2 catalyst is mainly due to the higher dispersion of cobalt atoms on the catalyst surface. The WGS activity is also affected by the oxygen vacancy concentration. |
