Photonic crystals have a great notice over fast decades because of its ability to manipulate, confine and control light. Above all, fabrication of photonic crystals is the biggest problems in visible region and thus intensive researches have been done. Particularly, assembly of colloidal particles has attracted attention because it is very cheap and simple, relatively. Therefore, in this study, we fabricated photonic crystals with colloidal particles and apply them to smart window and optical band stop filter. When electric field is applied in PS colloidal solution, PS particles move toward anode and are assembled. Consequently, a turbid solution is transparent and is turbid again when electric field is removed. Therefore, it enables to control transmission of light by applied electric field and can be used for smart window. Moreover, photonic crystals fabricated by PS particles can be used for optical stop band filter by controlling an angle of incident light.
