Several techniques have been studied for superhydrophobic polymer surfaces. With these techniques, polymers could be exploited for a wide range of applications. To commercialize these polymers, however, it is needed to find more adaptable and efficient preparation methods. In this study, we find more advanced methods for superhydrophobic surfaces of diverse polymers. We applied modified Directional Melting Crystallization (DMC) to change polymer surfaces. We treated four polymers, polystyrene, polycarbonate, polyurethane and polyvinyl alcohol, and successfully made polymer surfaces having high hydrophobicity. In this process, we considered the freezing rate of polymer as an essential variable, and applied a pre-cooling method to control the freezing rate of crystallization. We successfully adjusted the hydrophobicity of polymer surfaces with controlling freezing rate and polymers. By using this efficient method, hydrophobic polymer surfaces can be prepared without any complex steps. |
