Self-Assembly of Triblock Cylinders at Fluid-Fluid Interfaces |

Interactions and assembly behaviors of solid particles at fluid-fluid interfaces represent an active area of research for areas in a number of industrial applications. Recent studies have shown that particle shape and surface chemistry play a critical role in determining their behaviors at fluid-fluid interfaces. In this work, we study the interactions and assembly of triblock cylinders at fluid-fluid interfaces. ABA-type triblock cylinders with different block ratios and surface wettabilities are prepared by micromolding technique. These triblock cylinders at fluid-fluid interfaces induce complex interface deformation depending upon their relative block ratio and the surface wettability. We believe that this study the effect of shape and surface wettability of triblock particles on their equilibrium configuration and the interfacial assembly of complex particles provide a tool for fundamental study such as a particle-particle interaction and hierarchical self-assembly. |
