Preparation and characterization of lactobacillus encapsulated with alginate/chitosan microcapsule |

This study was carried out to deliver lactobacillus to the large intestine efficiently by using the alginate-chitosan microcapsules. Particle size and surface morphology of the alginate-chitosan microcapsules were examined by scanning electron microscope. Calcium ions were introduced to crosslink the microcapsule shell containing alginate physically. pH-dependent dissolution of alginate and releasing of lactobacillus were investigated at several different buffer solutions. Maintaining the activity of lactobacillus in alginate-chitosan microcapsule was confirmed by chroma meter. The majority of lactobacillus could be delivered intact to the large intestine by using the alginate-chitosan microcapsules. |
