Hydrogel Based Systems for Stem Cell Engineering |

There have been increasing demands for effective strategy of differentiation and proliferation of stem cells. One of the major challenges in the research is how they can be effectively differentiated into specific lineage required for that application. Among various differentiation methods, we have investigated a culture system based on porous membranes and hydrogels. 2 dimensional monolayer co-cultures of ASCs and NP cells were compared with 3 dimensional pellet cultures and hydrogel co-cultures using a porous membrane. Different types of porous membranes were also developed by using gelatin nanofibers to examine the effect of substrate structure on cell proliferation and differentiation in a co-culture system. Additionally, different types of cells were compared in a porous membrane co-culture system. We believe that this finding would elucidate how the appropriate and effective conditions could be set up for orthopedic tissue engineering applications. |
