In nuclear power plant, the activated carbon has been mainly used as a filter media to control the release of radioactive gases but has pores of various size, resulting in poor adsorption efficiency and short lifespan. On the other hand, the activated carbon fiber(ACF) consists of uniform micropores, so it has a larger specific surface area and faster adsorption rate and higher regeneration efficiency than activated carbon. In addition, it is a very economical substance because it has a long lifespan and low disposal cost. In this study, ACF was prepared under the variation of triethylene diamine(TEDA) impregnated amount. The BET and porosimeter was analyzed to identify the variation of the pore volume and specific surface with the increase of TEDA impregnated amount. And also, the analysis of TGA and SEM showed that TEDA was uniformly impregnated inside the micropores of ACF. And the adsorption of radioactive methyl iodide was conducted according to standard test method (ASTM D3803). It was confirmed that the minimum required amount of TEDA impregnated to obtain over 99% adsorption efficiency of radioactive methyl iodide was 5%. |
