The halogenated carbons such as a 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2 -trifluoroethane have been used as solvents to clean delicate instrument. Emission of these chemicals is considered to be the prime contributor to stratospheric ozone depletion. In this study, the effect of relative humidity on the adsorption characteristics of 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2 -trifluoroethane by a pellet-type carbon adsorbent was investigated. Isothermal adsorption column was set-up to study the effects of feed concentration, flow rate and relative humidity on the adsorption of 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2 -trifluoroethane onto activated carbon. The relative humidity of air stream was controlled in a range from 0 to 70 % (w/w). Adsorption isotherm of 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2 -trifluoroethane onto activated carbon was well expressed by Sips isotherm. The adsorption capacity of 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2 -trifluoroethane decreased with increasing relative humidity. An adsorption model based on the linear driving force approximation (LDFA) was found to be applicable to fit the experimental data. |
