제목 Synthesis of silica-alumina nanoparticles as byproducts in the carbonation reaction of blast-furnace slag using acetic acid
초록 Steel slag is an attractive feedstock for mineral carbonation, a technical option for the reduction of CO2 gas. Nine tons of blast-furnace slag (BFS), including Ca about 40 wt.% as CaO, is annually produced in Korea. Acetic acid has been used as an effective agent for the selective extraction of Ca from slag in mineral carbonation reactions. In this study, extraction conditions were optimized for Si and Al to be leached as dissolved forms. The concentration of acetic acid were varied 2-30 vol.% from 10 to 30 oC examining the formation of silica-gel. After extracting Si and Al as dissolved forms, gelation was separately performed with increasing temperature up to 60 oC for 4 h. Through aging and drying, the white silica-alumina nanoparticles (Si:Al = 78:22 mol%) were synthesized. The nanoparticles were less than 20 nm in size and the phase was amorphous. FT-IR studies reveal that the particles consist of Si-O-Si and Si-O-Al bonds.
