Injectable hydrogel have potentials as bone repairing due to be introduced into body in minimally invasive manner and to fill irregularly shaped defects. Also, alginate is broadly studied for bone repairing because of similar property above and ease of chemical modification and controlled release of tissue induction factors. Recently, our group proposed temperature sensitive hydrogels as carriers for Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2 (BMP-2). The hybrid polymer, which called Alg-PCLA, was comprised of alginate, poly(ε-caprolactone-co-lactide)-b-poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(ε-caprolactone-co-lactide) triblock copolymer and it was fabricated by EDC/NHS reaction. Alginate was modified with phosphate group to increase mineralization property. hybrid hydrogel can be a gel at body condition and exhibited sustained drug release. Also hydroxyapatite was well induced in vitro mineralization test. Thus, we can expect alginate based injectable hydrogel has great potential for bone repair. |
