Carbon nanotube(CNT) possesses the strong potential to be utilized in various applications due to its extraordinary mechanical, electrical and thermal properties. However, in reality, it has not been applied in various industries because of its practical limits arising from its short length and poor solubility. Various methods to assemble individual CNTs into a long CNT fiber have been developed in order to overcome these limits. In this study, we chose the wet spinning method in order to fabricate a strong and multi-functional CNT fiber. In order to successfully fabricate a high-performance CNT fiber by the wet spinning, we take advantage of liquid crystalline phase of CNT formed in chlorosulfonic acid(CSA). Liquid crystalline phase spinning has the advantages over the conventional wet spinning in terms of the degree of the alignment of CNTs, thus leading to better properties of CNT fibers. |
