Gold coated polymers have been widely used for microelectrics, photonics device, and medical implants. The cohesive energy of metals is typically two orders of magnitude higher than that of polymer, and the interaction between polymers and metals is very weak. To increase the interfacial adhesion between them methods such as chemical etching and plasma surface treatment have been applied. In this study, we investigated adhesive properties between poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) and poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluorohephtane(P(VDF-co-HFP)) substrate, which are polymers for plastic optical fibers, and gold thin film, which is deposited by sputter. Surface of polymer substrate were treated plasma using the processing gases of Ar, Ar/H2, and Ar/O2. Cross hatch cut tape test(ASTM D3359) was used for measuring interfacial adhesion.
