A facile method to synthesize transparent conductive coating using mercapto-directed self assembly of silver nanoparticles |

Metallic nanoparticles have proven to be reliable raw materials for the synthesis of flexible transparent conductive coating (TCC). One key area of research is focused on developing reliable wet-deposition methods which produce conductive and stable films on solid substrates. Herein, we investigated a facile method of synthesizing transparent conductive coating (TCC) via mercapto-group (SH) directed self assembly of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). The method used involves coating the surface of a substrate with a mercapto-silane group at room temperature and then using the high affinity of Ag NP for sulfur to control it deposition after which an overcoating layer (OCL) of polycations (PDDA or PEI), and sodium chloride (NaCl) is applied to chemically sinter the NPs. We show that the highly stable mercapto-silane backbone provides good adhesion and stretchability to the conductive layer due to its polymerized network-structure. The transmittance (T %) and sheet resistance (Ω/□) values of the as-prepared TCC were measured and compared to that of ITO. |
