Copper oxides embedded polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) floating sponge catalyst has been demonstrated as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the degradation of rhodamine B (RB) in the aqueous phase. Cu2O, CuO, and a mixture of above two oxides embedded PDMS sponge were synthesized separately onto sugar cubes templates. The resulting catalysts were characterized in detail using a FTIR, SEM-EDS, and ICP-OES techniques. The synthesized catalysts were applied to RB degradation through sonochemical methods at diverse reaction conditions. The sonochemical degradation method exhibited effective removal of RB (>98 %). This sonochemical degradation process followed first order kinetics and materials have reusability of more than 10 cycles. Facile synthesis, high catalytic performance, reusability, and easy recoverability of prepared catalyst showed its promising candidature towards the environmental applications for the treatment of water pollutants. |
