Water electrolysis produces hydrogen using surplus electricity from renewables. Thus, it is considered as an energy storage technology to address intermittency of renewables as well as an environmentally-friendly hydrogen production method. However, to effectively utilize hydrogen for energy storage, efficiency of water electrolysis should be improved. To achieve the goal, new catalyst materials have been extensively explored. In addition, to be practically used in electrolysis system, microstructure of catalysts and electrodes can be tailored to maximize electrochemical surface area. In this talk, highly-porous transition metal phosphorous is presented as a HER and OER electrode. |
