Investigation of Anisotropic Crystal Growth Mechanism of Rutile TiO2 in Molten Salt |

Anisotropic nano-crystalline materials are drawing special attention owing to their significant property variation along the different crystallographic axis and due to their large surface area to volume ratio. Many materials have been synthesized in 1-D and 2-D morphology in search of advanced properties for different applications. TiO2 is among the most researched materials as it has a wide field of application. In areas where high refractive index and high temperature stability have significant role, the rutile phase of TiO2 is preferable. Solution-based synthesis techniques such as molten salt synthesis are the commonly used synthesize methods for the synthesis of 1-D TiO2. The molten salt synthesis is preferred for obtaining longer acicular morphology and rutile phase. Understanding the mechanism behind 1-D crystal growth of rutile TiO2 in the molten salt enables us to identify the way how to control of the length and thickness of the resulting 1-D rutile TiO2 in a better Precision. In this study, the anisotropic crystal growth mechanism of rutile TiO2 nano-rod in a molten salt environment has been investigated. |
