제목 Novel Fluorinated Poly(arylene ether sulfide)s Containing Terphenyl Moieties for Optical Waveguide Applications
초록 Silica has been widely used for optical waveguide devices. But it is difficult to fabricate waveguide devices due to cost, processability, and so on.1 But polymers are more easily processed than silica. So polymers have emerged as a new class of optical waveguide materials because of the advantages of the structural flexibility, low cost, easy processability, and integration. For polymers to be used for optical waveguides, the following properties should be considered, such as optical loss, refractive index, birefringence, thermal stability, and mechanical properties. In this study, we focused on the synthesis and characterization of novel fluorinated poly(arylene ether sulfide)s2,3 with a goal of lowering birefringence at telecommunication wavelength region of 1.55μm, a sufficient thermal stability, and a chemical resistance to withstand typical fabrication processing and operation conditions. The poly(arylene ether sulfide)s were synthesized through nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction ( SNAr ) of pentafluorophenyl sulfide with diol monomer based on Pd-catalysis Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. And we introduced the thermally crosslinkable ethynyl group in the polymer chain end to increase the glass transition temperature ( Tg ) of fluorinated poly(arylene ether sulfide)s. The synthesized polymers were characterized by 1H-, 19F-, 13C- NMR and FT-IR etc. The thermal and optical properties of the polymers were characterized by DSC, TGA, prism coupler and so on.
