Dopamine, a derivative of catechol, is known as a constituent of mussel plaque which provides strong adhesion on many substrates even in wet condition. Here we aim to utilize the unique properties of dopamine by introducing dopamine in the amphiphilic molecular architecture which may generate interesting self-assembled structures. A series of amphiphilic compounds based on catechol and alkyl counterparts was synthesized. Characterization of the amphiphilic compounds by 1H NMR, ¹³C NMR and DSC confirmed the synthesis of desired compounds. Formation of micelles and subsequent polymerization in a solution or a micellar state will be discussed. |
