Hollow silica fibers have been widely used for biosensor, catalyst and drug delivery because of their high surface to volume ratios and biocompatibility. Hollow fibers could be prepared by a coaxial electrospinning method. But it has some problems such as difficulties of selecting immiscible two solvent and controlling the viscosity. In this study, we prepared hollow silica fibers via a single capillary electrospinning method. We used tetraethyl orthosilicate as a silica precursor, poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) as an extender, and ethanol as a solvent. Hollow silica fibers are formed by phase separation of PVP and SiO2 during solvent evaporation. The prepared fibers were further functionalized by a molecular imprinting method. |
