Synthesis of porous gadolinium oxide for adsorption removal of Arsenic from aqueous solution |

Inorganic arsenic occurs in -3, 0, +3, and +5 oxidation states in aquatic systems. Among several oxidation states, As(III) and As(V) are the most common in natural water or groundwater. The rapid industrialization and urbanization activities and other anthropogenic activities are the primary sources for the arsenic releases into the water. Groundwater contaminated with arsenic over a while has led to a massive arsenic poisoning. In the present paper, a novel porous nano metal oxide (Gadolinium oxide) has been synthesized by a freeze‐drying method and characterized to test the ability of gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3) to remove As(V) from the aqueous matrix. The maximum adsorption was appraised in this research, besides fitting the adsorption data to various equations to obtain certain constants related to the adsorption phenomena. |
