Chemical resistance and mechanical properties of Phenol novolac epoxy-amine hardener reinforced by reactive RCP randomcopolymer |

The effects of the crosslinking density and the addition of copolymer on the chemical and mechanical properties of epoxy resin have been studied. The measurements of the crosslinking density and equilibrium methanol absorption have shown that mechanical and chemical properties were influenced by the rigidity of crosslinked three-dimensional structure. The poly(styrene-co-glycidyl methacrylate) (RCP) was synthesized by using the atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) for improvement of toughness and chemical resistance of epoxy resin. The styrene portions in the RCP give the structural rigidity of epoxy resin and the glycidyl portions of the RCP give the compatibility between RCP and epoxy matrix. The characterization of synthesized RCP was conducted using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). The molecular weight and polymer dispersion index of RCP were measured by gel permission chromatography (GPC). |
