Coupling Reactions of Aromatic Halide Compounds in the Presence of New Crosslinked Polymer Reagent |

New N-substituted acrylamide monomer was polymerized with styrene by a suspension polymerization in the presence of divinyl benzene to obtain microporous crosslinked polymer particles. They were used as a polymer reagent for coupling reactions known as Suzuki and Ullmann reactions: aromatic halides were reduced to the resulting coupling compounds using a palladium catalyst in water in the presence of the prepared polymer reagent without any organic solvents at mild conditions. Unlike the conventional coupling reaction systems, the use of small amount of the crosslinked polymer particle enables the highly selective coupling reaction of aromatic halides to biphenyl compounds due to its fixation and orientation effects. |
