In this study, we synthesized silica coated MWNTs composite by surface oxidation of MNWTs using a phase transfer catalyst and followed by grafting of P4VP. The P4VP on MWNTs can activate a silica synthesis process by an acid-base interaction. Stöber method was employed as a synthetic method for silica. The composite material was characterized using XRD, TGA, SEM, TEM, and EDS. The synthesized silica forms a uniform layer on MWNTs with a controllable thickness in nanometer scale. The silica coated MWNTs can be applied to nanoscale sensors and electric devices as well as to optical, magnetic, catalytic applications. |
