In this study, biomineralization process of HA onto the surface of silk nanofibers was examined to develop silk/HA hybrid nanofibrous scaffold for bone regeneration, in which the scaffold matrix is composed of silk nanofibrous and HA was employed to coat the surface of silk nanofibers. Silk nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning method, and the growth and coating of HA crystals on the silk surface was achieved by biomineralization process which was controlled by use of highly concentrated simulated body fluid (SBF) and immersion time. Morphological characteristics of HA-coated silk nanofibers were examined using FE-SEM in order to understand the biomineralization process onto the surface of silk nanofibers, by comparing with those of other types of silk materials. The structure of surface coated HA on silk nanofibers scaffold was confirmed by EDS and WAXS, by showing that the generated HA crystals is identical to a Hydroxyapatite standard materials. |
