Fibrin has been used as an effective hydrogel material for both drug delivery and tissue engineering applications. The purpose of the study is to test the feasibility of using heparin-binding growth factor delivery with heparin-conjugated fibrin gel (HCFG) for tissue regeneration. HCFG was prepared by using a coupling reaction between amine group of fibrinogen and activated carboxylic acid of heparin. The HCFG was used to deliver various heparin-binding growth factors such as bFGF, BMP-2 and TGF-ß1 for angiogenesis, wound healing, bone and cartilage regeneration in animal models. The results show that growth factor delivery using HCFG promotes regeneration of various tissues including microvessel, skin, cartilage, and bone. |
