Advantage of controlled radical polymerization processes is able to synthesize the block copolymers with controlled chain architectures, Mw, and narrow PDI. In RAFT controlled styrene radical polymerizations, the thermal self-initiation reaction of styrene monomer can be one of the main sources for the means of ideal living polymerization. The aim of this study is the preparation of PS and PEO-ss-PS BCP in the presence of RAFT agent at high reaction temperature without a conventional initiator such as AIBN. In this report, different initial RAFT agent concentrations were used in styrene thermal polymerization without any added initiator. In this systems, Mw and PDI of PS can be tunable by changing the concentration of RAFT agent and reaction time. Furthermore, we successfully synthesized the PEO-ss-PS BCP by heating without initiator. These polymers were characterized by 1H-NMR analysis, and GPC trace. We induced well-organized lamellar structure via solvent annealing method. |
