The crosslinked phenolic beads were obtained by mixing phenol and formaldehyde in the presence of basic catalyst by suspension polymerization. In this reaction, the triethylamine (TEA), polyvinylalcohol (PVA), and haxamethylenetetramine (HMTA) were used mainly as initiator, stabilizer, and crosslinking agent, respectively. Resol type phenolic oligomer was synthesized with various phenol to formaldehyde ratios (P/F ratio) and initiator concentrations. The synthesized phenolic oligomers were crosslinked under suspension condition with various RPMs, types and concentrations of stabilizer and crosslinking agent, reaction temperatures, and so on. The effect of the above reaction conditions on the size (including the size distribution) of resulting phenolic beads and their physical characteristics were investigated. |
