Transparent and high-heat-resistant polymer materials are expected to be utilized as the key components of the high-tech industries such as display, solar cell, flexible plastics for e-paper and many electronic devices. Among them, plastic substrates for display and solar cell need the most excellent thermal and physical properties. However, new materials with thermal and optical properties as well as low coefficient of thermal expansion have not been developed yet. Herein, we synthesized new cardo-typed aromatic diols (BPF, BPA, and BPC) and aromatic difluoride (FBPODS). The mixture of the aromatic diols was polymerized with FBPODS in sulfolane in the presence of K2CO3 as a catalyst to produce novel transparent and high heat-resistant poly(arylene ether)s. These polymers showed high optical transparency at 500 nm and they also had high Tg (190-250℃) and excellent thermal stability. In addition, their tensile properties were measured by an Instron tester. |
