Highly Crystalline Diketopyrrolopyrrole-Based Copolymers for High Performance Ambipolar Field Effect Transistors |

We report the performance of ambipolar polymer transistors based on low band gap copolymers. The polymers are composed of donors and diketopyrrolopyrrole units with branched alkyl chains. In the transistor performance test, we observed decent ambipolar transport behavior. Thermal annealing of polymer films increased carrier mobilities. To investigate the origins of mobility dependence on the chemical structure and thermal annealing, polymer films were fully characterized. The polymers carrying longer branched alkyl chains showed a more long-range order of polymer chains. In addition, thermal annealing improved crystallinity and developed longer range lamellar structure simultaneously. This work demonstrates that the choice of chemical structure in the polymer backbone and the side alkyl chain makes a direct impact on film crystallinity and carrier mobility in polymer transistors. |
