Polyarylates, a family of aromatic polyesters consisting of ester groups and aromatic rings, are used in a variety of applications including automobiles, precision and medical devices, electric/electronic parts, technical fibers, molding compounds, protective coverings, etc., because of their excellent chemical stability, mechanical and electrical properties. In this study, for the target advanced applications requiring electrostatic dissipation, EMI shielding, and electric heating performance, polyarylate nanocomposites reinforced with multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT, 0.2-10 wt%) were fabricated by an efficient melt compounding process. The dispersion state of MWCNT in the polyarylate matrix was characterized by electron microscopic and X-ray diffraction methods. The thermal, rheological, mechanical and electrical properties of the polyarylate nanocomposites were investigated in aspects of the content and dispersion state of MWCNT. |
