Rutaecarpine is the main biologically active alkaloid isolated from Wu-chu-yu (dried fruit of Evodia rutaecarpa) and has various biological activities such as selective COX-2 inhibitory, vasorelaxing, antiplatelet, analgesic, cytotoxic, ureotonic, antianoxic activity, and selective inhibitory activity on human cytochrome P450. As a part of our interest in new anti-inflammatory agents from natural sources, we prepared a series of rutaecarpine derivatives by employing our own method. Synthesis and properties of rutaecarpine derivatives will be discussed. |
