제목 Design of multifunctional nanoparticle-based drug delivery system (NDDS): poly(acrylic acid)-calcium phosphate (PAA-CaP) passivated TiO2 nanoparticles for pH-responsive drug release and photodynamic therapy (PDT) capabilities
초록  One of the major challenges for cancer therapy using nanoparticle-based drug delivery system (NDDS) is selective toxicity for tumor cells. The strategy of designing and developing multifunctional NDDS has to be explored to overcome the limits of the treatments. Herein, we successfully synthesized poly(acrylic acid)-calcium phosphate (PAA-CaP) passivated TiO2 nanoparticles (TiO2@PAA-CaP NPs) equipped with dual functional capabilities such as pH-responsive drug release and photodynamic therapy (PDT). TiO2@PAA-CaP NPs exhibited higher drug loading capacity and pH-selective release. In-vitro tests revealed that drug-loaded TiO2@PAA-CaP NPs exhibited efficient cytotoxicity, likely followed by enhanced cellular uptake. Furthermore, drug-loaded TiO2@PAA-CaP NPs under UV irradiation exhibited overall higher cytotoxicity likely due to synergistic effects of efficient NDDS and enhanced PDT characteristics.
