Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) have been recognized as ideal reinforcing fillers for polymers, since they possess attractive mechanical and electrical properties. However, the tendency of CNTs to form aggregate is the main drawback. In order to enhance the dispersion of CNTs in polymer matrix, the surface of multi-walled CNTs(MWNTs) was modified by non-covalent method. Pyrene moieties having similar chemical structures with Polyamide6(PA6) successfully attached to MWNTs surface by π-π stacking, maintaining sp2 structure of MWNTs and leaded better interaction between PA6 and fillers, resulting in higher dispersion in PA6 then pristine MWNTs. Functionalization of MWNTs was conducted by ultrasonication and D/G ratios was remaining unchanged in Raman spectroscopy. PA6/modified MWNTs was prepared by melt-blending. Mechanical properties like flexural and impact strength increased, which was attributed to the uniform dispersion of modified MWNTs as observed in transmission electron microscopy |
