제목 Radiolytic Preparation of Polymer-Clay Nanocomposites
초록 Interest in polymer clay nanocomposites has increased significantly in recent years. The property improvements include better mechanical properties, better barrier properties, lower water absorption and reduced flammability. To achieve these properties, mica-type layered silicates, such as montmorillonite (MMT), are generally dispersed at the nanoscale in the polymer to yield the so-called ‘nanocomposite’. The presence of montmorillonite clay produces a substantial improvement in fire performance in polymeric matrices such as polystyrene and polyamides. However, the preparation of polymer clay nanocomposites was not studied by using gamma-irradiation, to our knowledge.
In this study, the polymer-clay nanocomposite were firstly prepared by radiation-induced polymerization of vinyl monomers such as styrene (St), divinylbenzene (DVB), and acrylonitrile and etc. in the presence of the various organic-clay. The chemical properties of the polymer-clay composites prepared by gamma-irradiation was characterized by FT-IR, SEM, TEM and thermal analysis (TGA/DTA), respectively. Fig. 1 shows TEM images of poly(St)-MMT (a) and poly(St-DVB, 80/20) prepared by radiation-induced polymerization method. The mechanical properties and anti-fire properties of polymer-clay nanocomposites prepared by radiation-induced polymerization are also discussed.
