제목 | Enhanced optical efficiency of InGaN light emitting diode with localized surface plasmon by using sputter fabricated Ag nanoparticle in Ionic Liquid |
초록 | It has been demonstrated that localized surface plasmon (LSP) coupling can be utilized to enhance the light output of GaN/InGaN multi-quantum well (MQW) structure. In most cases this enhancement was achieved by deposition of Ag nanoparticles (NPs) on the surface of GaN/InGaN MQW structure. However, the diameter of metal NPs is required to be several nm to improve optical characteristics by LSP coupling because thickness of active layer and transport layer in organic light-emitting diode and quantum dot light-emitting diode are just tens or hundreds of nm. Ionic liquids (ILs) could be used to synthesize stable metal NPs with small size of diverse kinds as a medium. Especially, when the Ag NPs in ILs are synthesized via sputter technique, they become stable and smaller due to preventing their aggregation by ion shell (anion and cation) formation without any additional stabilizing agents. Therefore, the Ag NPs in ILs have small and uniform size distribution. However, serious drawback exists that ILs are not appropriate to apply to a host of devices because they maintain liquid state at high vacuum and temperature condition. In order to solve this issue, PMMA-Ag NPs in ILs (PAIL) was fabricated by combining a suitable polymer and IL. Photoluminescence (PL) efficiency was enhanced by a factor of 3 in the active layer coated with PAIL. The result is ascribed to Ag NPs LSP coupling to the MQW region. |
